Leave management & absence software for UK teams

Book time off by painting a range on the calendar. CoDash computes working days and bank holidays, guards team coverage, and handles TOIL, Bradford Factor and return-to-work - the way UK HR actually works.

Answer first

CoDash time off is leave-management software built for UK employers. Employees drag a date range on a calendar; the system counts only working days, excludes bank holidays, supports half-days, checks team coverage, and either auto-approves or routes to a manager. HR gets Bradford Factor scoring, return-to-work interviews, TOIL and carry-over out of the box.

A calendar you paint, not a form you fill in

Booking leave should take five seconds. In CoDash you drag across the dates you want and the request paints itself: working days and half-days are counted, weekends and UK bank holidays (synced from gov.uk for England & Wales, region-aware for multi-country teams) are skipped automatically, and your remaining allowance updates live.

Approvals that protect coverage, not just process

Every team can carry a coverage rule. When a request still leaves the team above its minimum cover, CoDash can approve it automatically - no rubber-stamping. When it would leave a team short, the request is held and sent to the manager with the conflict shown. Long or sensitive leave can require a multi-step approval chain, and delegation keeps the queue moving when a manager is away.

The UK absence toolkit, built in

  • Bradford Factor scoring - the S²×D metric on a rolling 52-week window, calculated automatically and visible only to HR and the relevant manager. How the Bradford Factor works →
  • Return-to-work interviews - structured capture after a sickness absence, kept between the employee, their manager and HR.
  • TOIL and sabbaticals - a time-off-in-lieu ledger where managers or HR grant hours that a TOIL leave type draws down, plus long-leave and sabbatical handling.
  • Carry-over with a cap - configurable year-end carry-over, and pro-rata allowances for part-time patterns.

Everyone can see where everyone is

A team month view shows who is off, who is in the office, at home or remote, and where coverage is tight - with weekly work patterns and per-day overrides. Leave, 1:1s and company events publish to an .ics calendar subscription feed that syncs to Google Calendar or Outlook, so time off shows up where people already look.

Absence data your reports can use

Absence cost, allowance liability and turnover feed the reporting module, exportable to CSV. Sensitive absence reasons stay between the person and HR - managers see the fact of an absence and its coverage impact, not medical detail.

Time off questions

How does auto-approval for annual leave work in CoDash?

CoDash can approve a leave request automatically when the person's team still meets its configured coverage rule for those dates. If the booking would leave the team below its minimum cover, the request is held and routed to the manager instead. This removes the rubber-stamp approvals while still guarding capacity.

What is the Bradford Factor and does CoDash calculate it?

The Bradford Factor is a UK absence metric that weights frequent short absences more heavily than occasional long ones, using the formula S squared times D, where S is the number of separate absence spells and D is the total days, measured over a rolling 52-week window. CoDash calculates it automatically and it is only visible to HR and the relevant manager.

Does CoDash handle UK bank holidays and part-time staff?

Yes. Bank holidays for England and Wales are synced from gov.uk and excluded from working-day calculations, with region-aware calendars for multi-country teams. Leave allowances are pro-rated for part-time working patterns, and half-day bookings are supported.

Can employees carry over unused holiday or bank time off in lieu?

Yes. CoDash supports carry-over with a configurable cap, and a TOIL (time-off-in-lieu) ledger where managers or HR grant accrued hours that a TOIL leave type then draws down.
