Staff rota & attendance software for UK teams

Draft the week per team, publish in one go, and everyone gets their shifts by email. Clock-ins that close themselves, timesheets managers actually approve, and overtime that reaches payroll instead of a drawer.

Answer first

CoDash time & attendance covers rotas, clocking and overtime in one module. Managers draft shifts on a team grid and publish the week in one action - everyone is emailed theirs, and sees their next two weeks in My Shifts. Clock in/out feeds timesheets with forgotten clock-outs closed automatically, and approved overtime flows to TOIL or a finance payout view with a payroll CSV. It's a switch in settings, included in every plan.

Rotas drafted per team, published in one go

Click a day on the mini calendar and the add-shift form fills itself; set times, add a note (“Front desk”, “Client cover”), and build the week person by person. Drafts stay invisible to the team until you publish - one action that emails every affected person their shifts, so “I didn't see the rota” retires. Each person's My Shifts view shows the next two weeks, and shift notes travel with the shift rather than living in a group chat.

What it deliberately doesn't do yet

The rota builder won't currently stop you publishing a pattern that breaches the 11-hour rest rule - that check is still on whoever writes the rota. We'd rather say so than let a feature grid imply otherwise. The rules are in our rest-between-shifts guide, our downloadable rota templates are designed so the safe pattern is the default, and rest-rule warnings are on our roadmap - which we'll announce in the changelog when it ships, not before.

Clock in, clock out, and timesheets that close themselves

  • Any device - clock in and out from a phone or laptop; a live view shows who's in right now.
  • Self-closing entries - forgotten clock-outs are closed automatically and flagged, so nobody's Tuesday quietly runs for 37 hours.
  • Manager approval - timesheets route to the manager, and approved hours are the record payroll sees.
  • Breaks counted - break minutes recorded per entry, not averaged away.

Overtime that actually reaches payroll

Extra hours are submitted with a note, and the manager approves them as TOIL - feeding the time-off-in-lieu ledger the leave module draws down - or as pay. Approved-for-pay hours land in a finance-role payout view with a CSV export for payroll and a mark-as-paid action, mirroring how expenses reach payment: managers approve, finance settles, nothing lives in anyone's inbox. Weekend and weekday rates are weighted in the payout arithmetic. The rules side lives in our guides: is overtime pay legally required? and TOIL vs overtime pay.

Built to be turned on when you need it

Time & attendance is a module switch in company settings - desk-based teams can run CoDash without it and enable it the week the first rota'd hire starts. When it's on, it plugs into what's already there: shifts respect the leave calendar, hybrid work patterns show who's in the office versus home, and the who's-off view stays the one place everyone checks.

Rota & attendance questions

How does the rota builder work in CoDash?

Managers draft shifts per team - click a day, set the times, add a note like a role or location - and publish the week in one action. Publishing emails everyone their shifts, and each person sees their next two weeks in a My Shifts view. Draft shifts stay invisible to the team until published.

Does CoDash check rest breaks between shifts?

Not yet - the rota builder does not currently block a pattern that would breach the 11-hour rest rule, so the person publishing the rota still owns that check. Our rest-between-shifts guide covers the rules, and our downloadable rota templates include the checks. We would rather tell you this than let a feature list imply it.

How do clock-in and timesheets work?

People clock in and out from any device, a live view shows who is in, and timesheets go to managers for approval. Forgotten clock-outs close themselves so they never quietly inflate anyone's hours - the entry is flagged rather than left running overnight.

How does overtime get paid?

Employees submit extra hours; managers approve them as TOIL (which feeds the time-off-in-lieu ledger automatically) or as pay. Approved-for-pay overtime lands in a payout view for the finance role with a CSV export for payroll and a mark-as-paid action - CoDash reports the hours, your payroll system pays them.
