Why a named author

Most HR content is published by a brand with nobody's name on it. That is convenient for the publisher and useless for you, because you cannot judge whether the person writing about statutory sick pay has ever had to administer it.

So the guides on this site carry a byline, and this page says who that is. If something here is wrong, there is a person to tell.

How these guides are researched

The rule is simple and it is applied without exception: every statutory figure, date and threshold is checked against the primary source before it is published - gov.uk, legislation.gov.uk, or the regulator's own page. Never a secondary summary, never another blog.

That is not a claim about diligence for its own sake. It keeps turning up things the rest of the internet has wrong:

• Acas publishes no Bradford Factor trigger points

  A great deal of HR content says otherwise. Its guidance does not mention the Bradford Factor at all.

• DBS fees are £21.50 and £49.50

  Most pages still quote the old £18 and £38.

• Class 1A National Insurance is 15%

  Widely repeated as 13.8%, which was the previous rate.

Where the law has changed but not yet commenced, the guides say so plainly rather than printing a date that has not been appointed. Several competitors do print one.

Tell us we are wrong

If a figure here is out of date or an interpretation is off, say so and it gets fixed - with the date of the correction on the page. That is the whole arrangement.
